Top of the World

Eddie didn't want this track on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album. He had five other songs he wanted on the album rather than this track, but producer Andy Johns loved the song and insisted it be on the album.

The intro riff was first heard as the "outro" riff on Jump. It is believed that originally this lick was actually written for another song and that it was Ted Templeman's idea, upon hearing it, to tag it onto the end of Jump. Eddie recorded the song using the same 1958 Gibson "Flying V" used for Hot for Teacher and his faithful 100-watt Marshall Super Lead amplifier. The solo was played through a Soldano.

This was the first official single off the album, though not the first song released - that distinction belongs to Poundcake.

Three different videos for this song were released: a concept video that debuted on MTV on 10/14/91 and two different live videos - one recorded in Sacramento, CA, and the other recorded at the Dallas "Free Concert" on 12/04/91.

The song later appeared on Live: Right Here, Right Now.
