The Buddhist harmonic chanting that opens this track was performed by the Monks of Gyuto Tantric University, courtesy of Gyuto Wheel of Dharma Monastery. The monk’s introduction to the song was taken from their album The Gyoto Monks Tibetan Tantric Choir (Windham Hill, 1987) produced by the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart. The monks appeared in concert with the Grateful Dead several times.
Eddie used his infamous MXR Flanger on this track. On 01/04/96, it was announced that this song had earned a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Hard Rock Performance; it didn't win.
"I threw everything that I've ever thought about the beginning and the end of earth and mankind in there. It's really a prayer. It's a prayer to not destroy and not to reach the point of Armageddon, to where there's no return." - Sammy Hagar on Rockline, 02/27/95.
