Originally, this song, from the Van Halen III album, was as bluesy guitar intro with mumbled words by Eddie. It was part of the next song on the album, Ballot or the Bullet. Because Eddie's word's were considered too "inside," the song was rerecorded as a purely instrumental song on an electric sitar. More than a minute in length, the band decided to give it a title of its own. At first Gary wanted to call it "Super Tuesday," but Eddie suggested "Primary."
