Live: Right Here, Right Now

Released on 01/23/93, this album (Warner Bros. 45198) has sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S. It was certified gold and platinum on 05/04/93 and double platinum on 09/20/93. The home video Live: Right Here, Right Now (Warner Reprise Video 38290-3) was released on 01/23/93. The video was released on laserdisc (Reprise 38290-6). The DVD version was released on 06/08/99. There's Only One Way to Rock is titled "One Way to Rock" for this album.

Most of this album was recorded on 05/14/92 and 05/15/92 at Selland Arena in Fresno, CA, though some songs may have been recorded during earlier tours. At first, only a live video had been planned. Westwood One radio network recorded the audio for both shows to be used in a broadcast from the Cabo Wabo Cantina on 08/20/92. The recordings were mixed by Eddie, Alex, and Jon Ostrin at 5150.

The broadcast became known as the Cabo Wabo Radio Festival and included interviews with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony. Sammy and Mike also led a jam session during the broadcast with Bret Michaels (Poison), Richie Kotzen (Poison), David Lauser, and Craig Chaquico (Big Bad Wolf, Starship). When the Fresno recordings were aired, the fan response was very positive. The recordings sounded much warmer and fuller than past live recordings the band had made. Encouraged by the reaction of the fans, the band decided to release the recordings as a live album. The album would also give the band an excuse to tour Europe without releasing a new studio album. The release date of the video was pushed back to coincide with the album.

Andy Johns was brought into the studio to mix the final album tracks, which consisted mostly of the songs from the Fresno show. The final mix differed from what was heard on Westwood One.

Europe was bombarded with Van Halen ads on television, in posters, in magazines and even on the subway. A special package for those who bought the first pressing of the video included a replica backstage pass and an extra video that included interviews and live footage from the 5150 Studio.

Fans were quick to criticize both the album and the video due to the video's hectic editing as well as the album's crowd noise and over-polished sound.
