Hound Dog Demo
It is not known for sure what songs were recorded during this particular studio session, which took place in either 1974 or 1975 at the now defunct Hound Dog Studio, located on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, CA, (although it is rumored that the session yielded two or three different versions of Ice Cream Man along with two other unknown tracks). Ice Cream Man was a staple of David Lee Roth's prior to his teaming forces with the Van Halen brothers. He used to perform it at the Pasadena, CA, Ice House solo on an acoustic guitar.
The Hound Dog Studio, a modest studio with a small mixing console and a couple of soundproofed rooms, was run by Bill (last name unknown), who was heir to a construction fortune, and an engineer named Russell, who was known to have a severe sinus problem. It is quite probable that the studio based its name on a velvet painting of dogs playing poker that hung within its walls.
