Gene Simmons Demo
Gene Simmons wanted to try producing a band and thought Van Halen was the next big thing (though he wanted them to change their name to Daddy Long Legs). They recorded this demo sometime around May 1976 at Village Recorder Studios in Los Angeles after an evening gig at The Starwood. Two guitar solos were later recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios in New York. While in New York, the band performed (using Kiss's equipment) for S.I.R's Bill Aucoin, who passed to sign the band Piper. The band was unaware of the verdict and kept performing in Los Angeles without a copy of the demo to show other labels. To this day, Simmons jokes that Van Halen still owes him the money he fronted to produce the demo.
