Dreams

This song, from the 5150 album, was written by Eddie, Sammy, and Mick Jones (who also helped produce the album). Eddie met Jones (who was nicknamed "The Duke" by the band) through Sammy at an MTV Awards show. Originally, the verse section was part of the solo section. It was Jones's idea to change them. Eddie had just begun to write Dreams when Dave left the band.

The song was recorded on a 1912 Steinway 7-foot B Grand, MIDI-ed to an Oberheim OB-8. It also features a Kramer Ferrington acoustic/electric guitar.

During the Gulf War, several pilots played the song in the cockpit of their aircraft, using it for inspiration prior to engaging in combat.

Though the band didn't film a video for the 5150 version of the tune, the Navy's aerial stunt team, the Blue Angels, created a video of their own for Dreams, which they used to promote their 40th anniversary. The video was quickly picked up by MTV and placed into relatively heavy rotation.

The band filmed a video for Dreams as it appeared on the Live: Right Here, Right Now album. Filmed at a "secret" gig at the Whisky A GoGo in West Hollywood, CA, this video featured the band returning to its roots. The video was directed and produced by Stan Kellum and Carloyn Mayer Beug. The band incurred more costs than initially expected due to the extra police officers who had to be called in to help control the mini riot on the Sunset Strip that evening.

The song also appeared on Best of Volume 1.
