Dance the Night Away

This is the only track from the Van Halen II album written completely in the studio. The song was inspired by Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way. David Lee Roth originally wanted to name this song "Dance, Lolita, Dance." It was Eddie's idea to call it "Dance the Night Away."

In the live video for this song, the editor makes a mistake by confusing Eddie's new "false harmonic" technique with regular harmonics. This is not the only editing mistake, but is the most noticeable.

The Wedgies released a 6-song CD in 1997 to celebrate the Green Bay Packers' placement in the Super Bowl - all rock songs with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Track #5 was titled "Take Us All the Way" and was sung to the tune of Dance the Night Away.

Santana released his version of this song on his 2010 album, Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time.

This song also appeared on the Best of Volume 1 album.
